Greens hold Chichester South

At the District Election of May 4, 2023, the voters of Chichester South re-elected
Sarah Sharp with 1287 votes and elected
Tim Young with 943 votes – more votes than the Tories, Labour and Lib Dems combined! (C 266, L 281, LD 303.)

Sarah Sharp said: "Thank you to everyone in Chichester South who voted yesterday and supported Tim and myself. We are now your District Councillors and will work hard to represent everyone in the area, whoever you voted for. And thank you to our team who worked so hard on our behalf.

"Our overwhelming lead shows that people in Chichester South have put their trust in the Green Party – they know we do politics differently and put local people and our environment first. They know how hard we work and that we will give our all to address the issues that matter most to our residents."

While many are positive about the change of control at Chichester District Council having a strong opposition will be more important than ever. The Liberal Democrats have had very fine words to say on environmental issues in their campaign promises, so your Green councillors will remind them of those if, or some may say when, they follow in their predecessors’ footsteps and prioritise development over our local environment. We will have a close eye on whether they support the bulldozing of the countryside for car-dependent housing developments and new roads that will only encourage more traffic instead of prioritising safe walking and cycling routes. This is why it is so essential there is a strong Green voice on the council. We may be in the minority, but Green councillors play a crucial role in influencing decisions made at a local level when it comes to climate and the environment. We know these are central issues which are fast rising up residents’ lists of concerns and we will ensure those concerns are heard loud and clear.

Thank you to every voter and campaigner who helped get Sarah and Tim elected in Chichester South. They will work tirelessly for a fairer, greener community in Chichester.
