October 2024 Newsletter

Welcome to our October 2024 newsletter!

Making a difference

We already have many hard-working Green councillors in both Arun and Chichester. Next year, the West Sussex County Council elections are taking place, and we plan to get even more Greens elected.

Greens believe in supporting all our communities across the region. We offer Real Hope and Real Change in the face of climate and biodiversity emergencies.

We’re now looking for passionate people who want to help us make this difference. Could it be you?

If you want to find out more about standing as one of our Councillors, there are Green Party training sessions (Fri 25 Oct, 12pm, Weds 30 Oct, 7pm, Sat 9 Nov, 10.30am), information on the West Sussex County Council website, and you can contact the local party here:

Could you lend a hand?

Our local team is busy getting our positive Green message out to as many people as possible. This means delivering leaflets and surveys, and canvassing across many of our wards. And we’re always looking for extra help! If you’re able to join us, even for just an hour or so, we promise a warm welcome and full training.

We are currently delivering the latest issue of Chichester Green News to local residents. Our next planned delivery dates are: Wednesday 16 October and Saturday 19 October. Please click here for more details of how you can help.

And perhaps you might consider being a local officer in our small, friendly team? If you’re interested in sharing and developing your skills, and helping out more in your local party, please get in touch for details:

Beach clean and coffee

New to the Greens? Or a long-time supporter thinking of getting more involved? Why not come and meet us on Sunday 27 October? Local members will be joining the monthly litter pick on Littlehampton beach, then having a coffee and a chat in The Beach Cafe, Sea Road, Littlehampton (opposite The Wave leisure centre). To join the beach clean, please meet at 9.30am by the Shack, where the grabbers, gloves and bags are all provided. A member of the Beach team will lead the clean. Afterwards, we’ll have a coffee in the cafe, from around 11am. Please sign up below:

“Cycleoke” – entertaining environmentalism

CycleokeWe are excited to be hosting a Chichester Cycleoke session on Thursday 7 November, 6:30pm.

Our party are teaming up with local organisation ChiCycle to deliver this fun event in the Chichester University Student Union. Cycleoke is similar to karaoke – except the energy is entirely powered by bicycle! As well as providing all the equipment for students, members will be there to give information about the Greens, and advise on running future active travel and sustainability activities at the university. No need to book, and everyone is welcome – see you there!

Save the date

Chichester & Arun Greens Christmas Party will be held on Friday 7 December at Barnham Community Hall. More details coming soon…

Members updates

A reminder that our next branch meeting will be combined with our AGM on Friday 8 November, 7pm on Zoom. All members are welcome to join us, and non-members can be admitted by prior arrangement. Please note, only members can vote at the AGM. The full agenda will be emailed to members nearer the time.

Each month we hold an online policy discussion for members. It’s a chance to look at an important and topical area in more depth, in a relaxed and respectful setting. Our next topics are the Assisted Dying Bill (Friday 18 October), and local transport (Friday 15 November). Join in the discussions by registering here.
